THE ROLE
The cashier at Ace Hardware Big Sky is the last impression every customer carries out the door — and we take that seriously. We're looking for a Cashier who brings genuine friendliness to every transaction, handles the point of sale terminal with accuracy and confidence, and understands that in a community as tight-knit as Big Sky — how you treat people at checkout is remembered long after the receipt prints.
This is a role that sounds simple and is done exceptionally well by people who genuinely care. In a store that serves contractors on deadline, property managers solving urgent problems, and visitors who drove hours through a canyon to get here — a fast, warm, accurate checkout experience is not a small thing. It's the moment the whole visit either lands or doesn't.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently using our point of sale terminal
- Handle cash, credit, debit, and account transactions with precision and care
- Greet every customer at checkout with genuine warmth — make them feel seen not processed
- Answer basic product and store questions confidently — or find someone who can
- Assist with returns, exchanges, and special order pickups professionally and graciously
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming checkout area throughout every shift
- Support the floor team during slower periods — stocking, organizing, assisting customers
- Stay current on promotions, loyalty programs, and store offerings to share with customers
- Open and close registers accurately and responsibly
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A naturally warm and friendly personality — genuine not performed
- Comfort and accuracy with point of sale technology and basic cash handling
- Strong attention to detail — every transaction matters
- Ability to stay calm, efficient, and pleasant during busy rushes
- Reliability — the checkout line depends on you being there and being ready
- Previous cashier or retail experience preferred — we'll train the right person
- Availability for weekday and weekend shifts including early mornings — we open at 7am Monday through Friday. Open to discuss all availabilty
